Hi! I am working on a new literary, nonfiction book called War of Lies—When George Washington Was the Target and Propaganda Was the Crime. Yes, this is a true story about forgeries that attacked George Washington in a propaganda campaign. The book reveals three suspects who could have been behind it. I could use your help in selecting a front cover.
Below is a description of the book for the back cover followed by three choices for the front cover and a chance to vote on which front cover you like best or the one that best fits the topic.
Forgeries at Valley Forge
Did General George Washington write these words in a letter, which a New York newspaper published in 1778 while he was at Valley Forge?
“I do not really wish for independence. I hope there are few who do,” George Washington to John Parke Custis Washington, June 18, 1776.
Or was this propaganda and disinformation, the 18th Century version of fake news? War of Lies reveals the forgery campaign that targeted General George Washington and uncovers the suspects behind this plot to destroy the commander-in-chief’s reputation.
If Washington didn’t write these words, then who did? Who had the motive and moxie to credibly pull off forgeries in Washington’s name? Was this the first time Washington had encountered malicious falsehoods against him in the newspapers? Newly digitized letters and newspapers will help to solve this true crime history mystery. A great awakening to tyranny, the American Revolution was also a war of lies, a propaganda campaign whose battlefields took place on the pages of newspapers and pamphlets, the new social media of the 1700s.
As America looks forward to celebrating her 250th birthday in 2026, now is the time to discovery this hidden history mystery and the true character of America’s first president.

Option A—Traditional Classic
This is a classic image of General Washington. It does not convey forgeries or a fake Washington, but it is an appealing image of Washington as the commanding general.
Because C looks the most like a lie!
How about putting of the “gazettes” in the background with him standing in front in a color to suggest “yellow journalism” or in a weird font that sort of suggests like Nazi propaganda kind of stuff
